I popped along to the Photography Show (NEC, Birmingham) for the first time, it didn’t disappoint! So many exhibitors of all kinds there from market leading manufacturers to new near-on kick starters just getting off the ground. There was a fantastic atmosphere around the whole show with people smiling and enjoying the products on show. I went to the show with a complete open mind, thinking I may pick up some memory cards; unfortunately there wasn’t a better deal than Amazon available there. That said there were some really good discounts on higher value items such as camera bodies, lenses and bags. The show as a whole is so interactive, not sure about an expensive lens or body? – chances are it is on display. I was particularly drawn to Lensbaby, the had the full range of their manual focus depth of field/selective focus lenses there to try. They are incredible, the bokeh and manipulation of focus is so quirky. Another brand show casing an unusual lens was Lomography with the Petzval 58mm, I would have snapped this lens up in a heart beat, despite it having a hefty show discount it was a bit too pricey for a niche lens I wouldn’t use much.
After day one at the show we set off for Birmingham City centre for a quick change and an evening meal before heading out for the night shoot.
